Liebherr has designed a new 3D printed part for use in aircraft. The part, which is a hydraulic valve block, was recently tested by Airbus in the double-decker A380.
The 3D printed part is used on the inside of the actuator of the spoiler and is a vital component that helps the plane to land safely by reducing aerodynamic lift. It’s made of titanium for superior strength and is actually 35 percent lighter than its traditionally-manufactured opponent.
Because the test for this valve block went so well, Liebherr is also looking into producing more 3D printed parts, such as hydraulic systems and rudder actuators.
